Getting traffic to your site is important, but it is most important to receive targeted traffic to your site. This means traffic that is interested in your content and what you might be selling. Having a bunch of comic book collectors coming to your site that sells scented candles is probably not going to be that effective (unless they are looking for a gift). You can get targeted traffic by offering your visitors content that interests them, getting a good listing on the search engines with your keywords and advertising on sites that also target your target market.
