Hits

Hits are not the number of people that visit a site. Hits are a single file request in the access log of a web server. This does not mean that one page view is a hit. If there are 5 graphics on a page, then a hit is counted for each graphic and the text (HTML). In this case, if a visitor views this page - there will be 6 hits registered for that visit. When you hear that a site generates 1 million hits in a given time; this does not reflect the number of people visiting the site.
